FAQs About Physiotherapy After a Car Accident

When should I start physiotherapy after a car accident?

Begin physiotherapy as soon as possible, ideally within a few days. Early intervention helps prevent injuries from getting worse and speeds up recovery. Talk to your Cambridge physiotherapist for an assessment of your condition and a personalized treatment plan.

Will my insurance cover physiotherapy for car accident injuries?

In Ontario, auto insurance automatically covers up to 12 weeks of physiotherapy, massage therapy, and products like a neck pillow or brace or any products your physiotherapist recommends to help you heal. At the end of the 12 weeks, your physiotherapist completes a reassessment and asks for an extension if needed. Cambridge Physiotherapy Clinics offers direct billing, simplifying the process. If your injuries are minor, your coverage is based on the Minor Injury Guidelines (MIG) for 4 to 6 months of physiotherapy. If your injuries are not considered minor, your coverage includes 6 months to a few years of therapy.

How long does physiotherapy take after a car accident?

Physiotherapy treatment varies based on the severity of your injury and your recovery progress. You may need physiotherapy after a car accident for a few months, but if you have more serious injuries, you might require several months or years of physiotherapy.
