Spinal Decompression (DTS) at Cambridge Physiotherapy
What is Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS)?
Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS) is a safe, non-invasive treatment to alleviate back and neck pain by gently stretching your spine. Your physiotherapist at Cambridge Physiotherapy may recommend DTS to relieve pressure on compressed spinal discs from conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, nerve impingement or degenerative disc disease.
How Does DTS Work?
Spinal Decompression Therapy involves a motorized table that carefully applies traction, creating negative pressure within the disc. This promotes the movement of oxygen, nutrients, and fluids back into the disc, aiding in natural healing and pain relief. DTS decompresses the spine and helps alleviate nerve pressure, reducing pins and needles in the leg. DTS also helps discs return to proper placement over a few treatments if the disc is “out” or prolapsed.
DTS is a controlled treatment integrated with other therapies in a complete physiotherapy care program. It reduces pain and discomfort and restores your mobility without surgery. Many patients experience significant pain reduction after several sessions over four to six weeks, so torn and degenerated disc fibers begin to heal, improving their overall quality of life.
